As Caper School of Performing Arts is the leading dance tuition provider in the Hills District, you can be assured that your child’s first steps in dance are with a school that meets the needs of its youngest students. Additionally, Caper can continue to nurture their talent, self esteem and love of dance throughout their primary and high school years. Caper was established in 2003 and some of those very first Tiny Tots are still dancing with us now!

Tiny Tots classes are the perfect introduction for pre schoolers (3-5 yrs) to the performing arts as the class combines elements of jazz, ballet, singing, drama and movement into a fun one-hour lesson. Tiny Tots classes aim to improve student’s flexibility, coordination and general fitness activity, as well as familiarising children with concepts such as beat and rhythm. The progress of students is developed in a caring environment that aims not only to introduce them to dance technique but to also build their self-esteem, fitness and confidence.

For many students, Tiny Tots is their first, or one of their first experiences in a social, learning environment. It is to be expected that children will be withdrawn or shy on their first lesson – please allow 2-3 weeks for a child to settle in and start to get into the swing of things! Parents are welcome to watch the class for the first week to give their child extra support if needed.

PARENT AUDIENCES

Whilst we encourage parents to take an active role in their child’s dance development, we ask that you do not enter the dance lesson without being invited to do so by the teacher. As the students are of a young age, they are very easily distracted and you may inadvertently distract not only your child, but also other students in the class. This not only limits the student’s ability to learn, but also makes teaching very difficult for the teacher. We do however provide weekly opportunities for you to view their improvement and teachers are also always available to give you feedback on your child’s progress.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

Caper produces an Annual Concert which gives the pre-school level students the opportunity to perform onstage. Additionally, at the end of every lesson students give their parents an in-class performance.

TAKING THE NEXT STEP

After completing 12 months of Tiny Tots, or when the student commences Primary School they may advance to either the Pre-Junior or Junior levels. Skills developed in Tiny Tot classes are further honed, and students are taught more complex choreography. Pre-Juniors also have the option of participating in an introduction to tap class. The Tap class does not perform a routine at the Annual Concert.
